Education
I completed my Bachelor of Architecture at University of California at Berkeley in 1991 with a written thesis, as the only student in an inaugural thesis course, which was published in the Berkeley Undergraduate Journal. After graduation, I began work with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's Building Technologies Program researching ways in which advanced information technologies could enhance building design.

In 1994 I began a Ph.D. program in Design Theory and Methodology again at Berkeley. My research focus was integrating conceptual models of design activities with appropriate technologies to facilitate the design process. My continued research at LBNL provided an enjoyable balance between academic and applied research environments. I completed my Master's coursework in 1996.

Professional
Upon leaving Berkeley, I moved to New York and began working with an integrated communications company, Digital Pulp. This was early in the dotcom boom and I was privileged to be involved in defining many online identities such as Double Click, BizTravel, Cigar Afficiando and Egghead Software. After DigitalPulp I worked as an online consultant with several large organizations including American Airlines, Time Warner and the Smithsonian Institute.

In 1999, I began working with a young team of developers at Keymind Inc. in Washington DC. Particularly interesting projects included designing a student-friendly "gateway" for the Library of Congress website, information architecture and interface for JP Morgan's in-house large-scale loan management system and restructuring the front-end organization of the National Archives online assets.

China
In April of 2000, I traveled to Hong Kong to explore the opportunity to establish a Keymind office in Asia. Discovering a favorable business environment, I moved to Hong Kong the following month. I built an interactive design team of 10 developers and began working with a local integrated marketing agency, Market Catalyst (now Bates Asia). Our clients included the HK Jockey Club, Hang Seng Bank and Hang Lung Properties.

After two years, I moved to Shanghai to establish an office for Lemon Asia, Hong Kong's leading interactive agency. Working with a small JV, I acted as Director of Operations and Business Development and helped grow the team from 8 to 36 staff while working with clients such as Agricultural Bank of China, Intel, Moet & Chandon, Epson, STAR TV and VW. I have recently returned to the US after a three year stay in Shanghai.

I have an aptitude for language including conversational Mandarin Chinese as well as some French, Spanish, and Italian.
